13/03/2010 – The howling Yorkshire wind failed to puff away the roaring screams of support and encouragement at the Goals Soccer Center in Bradford. The only day where the quiet sport center is filled with life and adrenalin for victory and an important period in time where the feeling of patriotism was boiling with enjoyment.
The Brunei Bradford Students Society hosted their first ever football tournament involving other Brunei societies in the United Kingdom with the aim to expand the status of this newly established community and strengthen the awareness for Brunei’s national pride and identity among the students.
Six teams were invited for the friendly football competition and as the teams stood proud singing Brunei’s national anthem in the middle of the field and reading the doa’; BruLiv (Brunei Liverpool), BNS (Brunei Newcastle), BruLeeds (Brunei Leeds), BruBrad Bravo, Hanna FC and BruBrad Alpha including the supporters and volunteers, they could feel the rising appreciation for their home country, Brunei Darussalam.
Mohammad Erman bin Haji Jais, one of the event organizer, held a short briefing for the teams on the rules of the game before starting off the match.
With the event’s motto “Victory Awaits” on the banner fighting against the touch wind, the teams were working hard on the fields for the glory, the blaring motivation from the supporters and the volunteers running here and there to provide a better service for the guests.
The medics were rushed to attend players who were injured during the matches and in the end; one team valued the pain and bloody scratches from the game.
BruBrad Alpha was the champion in the competition and BruBrad’s president, Zaini bin Junidi, proudly presented them with the trophy and medals. Other prize presenters were Aziz bin Aziyan, the society’s Sports Officer, and Pengiran Israwadi bin Pengiran Yusof, gave out the awards for BruLeeds who earned the second place and BNS who gained the third place.
The memorable event ended by reading out the doa’ and the gratification for making the tournament a great success.
